Don’t want to feel teeny in your bikini this summer?
With spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to consider your summer body. In fact, here at North Florida Plastic Surgery Center, it is Dr. Tyrone’s busiest time of year for breast augmentation surgery. Breast enhancement is about more than just boosting your bust-line, it’s about building confidence. Breast implants may be just what you need to feel your best in your favorite swimwear!
Why plan your surgery NOW?
You may have heard that recovery time after breast augmentation is minimal when performed under the skilled hands of Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Tyrone, and that results are practically instantaneous. While this may be true, optimal healing can take several months. If your goal is to look and feel naturally endowed by summer, the winter months are definitely the ideal time to undergo surgery.
While most patients who choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery are ready to return to their normal routine within just a few days, the recovery process can take up to six weeks or more.
At a minimum: 2 to 3 weeks
You may experience mild to moderate soreness for approximately 3-5 days after your breast enhancement surgery, during which time you may be taking pain medication. For some patients, this discomfort may last up to a week. Sutures placed during your surgery will be removed at approximately two weeks, at which time we will teach you exercises to help your breasts take on a more natural appearance.
During this initial post- op time, your exercise regimen will also need to be put on hold. Any activity that can raise your heart rate can result in superficial bleeding, called hematoma, which can increase your risk of scar tissue development. Additionally, excessive arm movements, including pushing, pulling, or heavy lifting, can result in a malpositioned implant.
Ready to dive in? In order to ensure that your breasts are not exposed to unhealthy bacteria, swimming or bathing should not take place until at least one week after suture removal.
Beach Bash: 4 to 6 weeks
Is beach volley ball your thing? Do you love a morning jog along the water? Any high impact or cardio activity will need to wait until you are fully healed and cleared by Dr. Tyrone, which usually takes place around 6 weeks. Want to wear that cute strapless sundress? Your breasts will need to be fully supported during the healing process in order to achieve the most beautiful, long-lasting results.
Want to have fun in the sun? Your skin after breast augmentation is super susceptible to injury from the harmful rays of the sun, and even tanning beds, this means the chances of getting a painful sunburn are pretty high! And, while your scars are still pink, burning or tanning them can make them stay dark permanently.
Here comes the sun: 6 months
During the chilly months, it’s easy to cover up in winter sweaters and cozy sweats. This means you can recover privately. And, with fewer outdoor activities, it is also easier to rest up and recover.
By six months, your breast implants will have settled into a more permanent and natural position. Swelling will be gone, and your new look will have taken shape. Your incisions will have healed and begin to fade and sun exposure will be safer (with sunscreen, of course!). By the time summer rolls around, you will feel more than ready to reveal your new curves, while taking advantage of those swim suit sales!
Whether your goal is to bring symmetry to your breasts, restore volume lost as a result of pregnancy or breastfeeding, or simply feel more confident about your breast size, shape, and fullness, during your consultation with Dr. John Tyrone you will have the opportunity to discuss your individual goals for breast augmentation and you will receive guidance to determine the best surgical time for YOU!
