Saline Breast Implants
Mentor saline breast implants are FDA approved, and have been used safely for breast augmentation for decades. Saline breast implants have an outer shell composed of silicone rubber and are filled during surgery with injectable saline solution. (Saline solution is nothing more than a balance salt water solution similar to the solution used for contact lenses. The solution we use is exactly the same fluid that you will receive in your intra-venous line during surgery). Because the breast implants are filled during surgery and after being placed into the implant pocket, they can be inserted through a slightly smaller incision and the final volume of the implant adjusted to compensate for small differences in breast size. For women with adequate breast tissue volume, good skin quality, and little breast droop, saline breast implants are a safe and affordable alternative to silicone breast implants. Mentor saline breast implants come in three common profiles (moderate, moderate plus, and high profile) to fit a wide range of patients. Although saline breast implants may not feel quite as “natural” as silicone breast implants, most patients are very satisfied with saline breast implants, and they are a less expensive alternative to silicone breast implants. Additionally, for women that have concerns about the long term safety of silicone gel breast implants, saline implants are a good alternative.
At the time of your consultation, you and Dr. Tyrone can discuss the risks and benefits of breast augmentation with saline breast implants, as well as any questions you may have. In patients that are good candidates for saline breast implants, the results can be dramatic, and most patients are extremely happy. Women with thin breast tissue, poor skin quality, breast droop or other post-partum breast changes may not be the best candidate for saline implants. During your consultation, Dr. Tyrone will point out any factors that make you a good or poor candidate for saline or silicone implants. Call today to schedule an appointment.
